There were lots of people doing this. They are around during the day as well, but harder to spot. Where we are located, on the south end' there are almost always people walking the beach at night.

A Lot With Flashlights Especially When Low Tide In The Early Evening Looking.

On clear day and full moon, you can see the horizon with moonlight reflection in the water. Irrelevant but some fun info. They might be looking for those small sand crabs to use for bait.

Evening walks on the beach. In southern california you can find people doing this at night too but we are looking for grunion. As far as the little crabs that you chase, and maybe catch along the beach at night, they are small (but can pinch!!) ghost crabs or aka sand crabs.

The last couple of years i have noticed huge holes being dug on the beach.i can understand kids digging but this is ridiculous.i have seen holes about 10 feet in diameter and about 4 feet deep.it is dangerous for people walking on the beach at night and it is terrible for the sea turtles that are nesting and could easily get stuck in these holes.i love the beaches and the. We're in a hotel in destin and we keep watching people all night. Ghost crabs make their way to the surface of the sand as the air cools off.

As It Turns Out, A Lot Of People Hunt For Sea Life On The Beach, And Small Little Creatures Like Crabs, Sand Fleas, And Sand Dollars Show Up And Nighttime Is The Perfect Time To Catch Them.


I don't know for sure exactly what they're doing though. We're in a hotel in destin and we keep watching people all night scouring up and down the beach with flashlights. At night, what are people looking for on the beach?
